Water closed around my head and hushed all
Sounds of laughing, splashing happy crowd
No fear, no panic, pleased I had the gall
To dive into the pool. I am so proud.
It has taken quite a while, I must confess
Fifteen years and a painful broken limb
But now I hold my head up with success
I am a water baby. I can swim.
But if I walk away now that I can
My skills will never increase over time
To enter the Olympics is my plan
To stop right now would be a serious crime
So I put on my swimsuit, dive right in
My dose of daily practice will begin
MY SONNET TO “SUFFERING FOR MY SPORT”
