Easter in Springtime

Light chocolate, dark chocolate, creamy smooth and white

Mouths watering, melting with each and every bite

Eggs of all descriptions, small, medium, tiny

Wrapped around with ribbons, colourful and shiny

Box upon box of each type of sweet

Presents for the parents, they too deserve a treat

Candy carrots and marshmallow bunnies

Squeaky chickens and chocolate monies

Hot cross buns and simnel cake

Easter biscuits the Mums will make

Little girls dressed in a colourful way

To celebrate this sunny Easter day

Little boys handsome in collar and tie

“It hurts me, Mum, ” they moan and say

Babies wearing Easter bonnets

Churches chanting feast day sonnets

Wicker baskets decorated

For the day that’s celebrated

Satin ribbons styled in bows.

From each basket colour flows

To match the dresses that they wear

And the streams of ribbons in their hair

The children wait in joyful fear

For the Easter bunny to appear

He scatters chocolate eggs around

Knowing that they will be found

By little hands intent on play

On this beautiful, sunny Easter day.
